JOB SUMMARY:      

The Customs Clerk is responsible for performing all functions required to ensure that all Company shipments are cleared in an efficient and productive manner.

 

LOCATION:

Aranguez, El Socorro

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Calls shipping agents to verify arrival date of shipments.
  • Clears shipments from ports of entry in a timely manner.
  • Generates all required documentation for the clearance of shipments in accordance with Customs regulations to ensure that this takes place expediently. This may include, but is not limited to:
    • Preparing customs entries on internal Customs programs (Turbo).
    • Preparing and sending Customs entries on the relevant software for verification, validation and assessment.
    • Lodging entries at the Customs House for approval.
  • Ensures that all cheques related to the clearing of shipments are received, and that all duties and rent are paid after entries have been approved by Customs.
  • Liaises with Trinidad Customs to resolve all Customs queries.
  • Prepares all necessary documentation required for the export of stock and makes arrangements for shipping.
  • Prepares and maintains all necessary reports, records and documentation in a timely manner. This may include but is not limited to:
    • Preparing vouchers for payment of handling charges, storage rent and freight charges.
    • All legally required record keeping related to the Customs Bond.
    • All necessary entries relating to the movement of stock through the Customs Bond.
    • Recording all entries cleared.
    • Updating tracking report daily.

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of five (5) GCE/CXC O’Levels passes, two (2) of which must include English and Mathematics.

 

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION:

  • Must have Grade I/II Customs Clerk License

 

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in customs clearance.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Customs regulations and laws.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good numeracy Skills.
  • Must be able to work to deadlines.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Tools.
